Indian energy group to invest $7.7 bn in gas field (AFP)

MUMBAI (AFP) ? India's largest state-run oil explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corp plans to invest $7.7 billion in developing one of India's biggest gas fields off the eastern coast, a company spokesman said Tuesday.

ONGC is aiming to drill eight additional wells in a block in the KG basin and has sought approval from the regulator and the petroleum ministry, he said.

The oil giant will also explore tie-ups with foreign partners, who have expertise to develop hard-to-exploit reserves in the basin, he added.

"We will look for partners who have expertise in ultra deepwater drilling," the spokesman said, asking not to be named.

ONGC, which produces about 30 percent of India's crude requirement, is involved in exploring for and exploiting hydrocarbons in 26 sedimentary basins of India.

The KG basin is India's most prolific gas basin, where some of the country's largest natural gas discoveries have taken place in recent years.

Oil and natural gas companies are raising spending on exploration and production, as demand and prices remain high.

Earlier this year, British giant BP agreed to pay $7.2 billion for a 30-percent stake in 23 oil and gas blocks owned by private energy giant Reliance Industries.

India imports about 70 percent of its total fuel needs.

He declined to say who ONGC was talking to but media reports last week said was holding discussions with the BG Group and Italian oil giant ENI with a plan to sell up to a 30-percent stake in two other gas blocks, off eastern India.

"ENI and BG have evinced interest," the Economic Times financial daily on Tuesday quoted an unnamed ONGC official, who added it was too early to say if deals would be signed with either firm.

ONGC has bagged more than 50 percent of the 238 blocks awarded in bidding under India's exploration licensing policy.

ONGC produced 27.27 million tonnes of crude oil and 25.32 billion cubic metres of gas in the year to March 2011.

If the cat is totally wild and uncooperative, you may have to use a catch pole, or, wearing a welder?s glove (heavy leather), grasp him by the scruff and drop him in, feet first, with the pet taxi upended and the open door on top. Don?t even think about towels or blankies. He can ride on the bare floor. This is more for emergencies, when getting him to the vet is critical and he?s terrified. This method also usually requires a helper, and you need to be very fast. Once in, cover the taxi with a large towel, for two reasons: to comfort the cat, and to protect your hands when you are handling the carrier. Some cats might reach through any openings and scratch anything they can? such as your hand.

The thing to remember with all of these methods is to remain calm. Granted, the wild one will get your blood rushing, but try not to yell, scream, shout or become angry and rough. It?s essential to be calm and gentle, even with the difficult ones. Just remember, the cat is terrified, and needs help.

EMDR is a model of psychotherapy that has been demonstrated in many studies to be highly effective at treating the symptoms of trauma and other psychological issues. EMDR uses a structured eight-phase psychotheraputic approach which addresses the past, present, and future aspects of dysfunctionally stored memory. During the processing phases of EMDR, the client attends to the disturbing memory in multiple brief sets of about 15-30 seconds, while simultaneously focusing on the dual attention stimulus. Following each set of such dual attention, the client is asked what associative information was elicited during the procedure.

British Library and Google put 250,000 books online (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) ? Pamphlets about Queen Marie Antoinette and an account of a stuffed hippopotamus are among 250,000 books being made available online in a deal announced on Monday by Google and the British Library.

Internet users will be able to consult the texts dating from 1700 to 1870, which have been digitised by the search engine giant and chosen by the library, they said in a statement.

The works are all out of copyright, thus avoiding problems Google has previously faced in the United States and France over its attempts to create a universal digitised library.

"Our aim is to provide perpetual access to this historical material, and we hope that our collections coupled with Google's know-how will enable us to achieve this aim," British Library chief executive Lynne Brindley said.

She said it was building on the library's "proud tradition of giving access to anyone, anywhere and at any time."

Among the first works to be digitised will be feminist treatises written in 1791 on Queen Marie Antoinette of France, the wife of King Louis XVI who was executed after the French Revolution.

There are also plans written by the Spanish inventor Narciso Monturiol dating from 1858 for the first combustion engine-powered submarine, entitled "A Scheme for Underwater Seafaring: the Ichthyneus or Fish-Boat".

The collection further features "The Natural History of the Hippopotamus, or River Horse", written by George Louis Leclerc in 1775, which tells the story of a stuffed hippopotamus owned by the Prince of Orange.

All the works will be available for text search download and reading on the British Library's website www.bl.uk and at Google Books on books.google.co.uk.

The cost of digitising all 40 million pages will be borne by Google, which has entered similar partnerships with Stanford and Harvard universities in the United States as well as in the Netherlands, Italy and Austria.

"This public domain material is an important part of the world's heritage and we're proud to be working with the British Library to open it up to millions of people in the UK and abroad," said Peter Barron, director of external relations at Google.

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Sony Ericsson today announced the appointment of P Balaji as the managing director of the company's India operations, effective from July 1, 2011.

In his new role, Balaji will help in establishing Sony Ericsson's leadership position in the Android market and work closely with operators and distributors in India, said a press release.

"Balaji has an excellent experience and understanding of the India telecommunications market. He will play a key role in Sony Ericsson's long term growth ambitions in the region, by bringing our Android-based Xperia smartphones to the Indian market and further strengthening relationships with local operators, retailers and consumers,"said Matthew Lang, Sony Ericsson Asia Pacific region head.

Balaji joins Sony Ericsson from Ericsson India, having last held the role of vice president - Business Development, Corporate Affairs and Communications. Previously, Balaji oversaw Marketing, Strategy and Technical Solutions for Ericsson India.

The Neuroscience of Romanticized Love ? Part 3: A Jungian Analysis ...

The human psyche, Dr. Carl Jung said, ever strives for wholeness and healing, to become more conscious and complete in a life quest for meaning.

Jung taught that healing, wholeness and consciousness, whether for an individual or a group, are inborn subconscious strivings.?In his words:??There is in the psyche a process that seeks its own goal no matter what the external factors may be?.the almost irresistible compulsion and urge to become what one is.?

Notably, what Jung proposed nearly a century ago is substantiated by the latest findings in neuroscience. We have the ability to heal our brain with self-directed methods of neuroplasticity. Truly, the path to one?s healing is inseparably a journey to consciousness, and the doorway to this path is ? the discovery of one?s psyche wounds.

The most painful wound in the Western psyche?

What is a psyche wound? In Jungian terms, it is a wounding of the soul, a word used interchangeably to mean the mind, the spirit, or the innermost self. Wounding can occur to a social group as well as an individual.

A noted author, lecturer and interpreter of Jung?s work, Dr. Robert A. Johnson, who also studied and worked alongside Jung and pioneers of Jungian psychology, makes a most astounding conclusion with regard to what he terms as ?romantic love.?

In his analysis, he believes it to be ?the great wound in the Western psyche.?

The concept of ?romantic love is responsible, Dr. Johnson explains, for the ?most common and painful wound ? in our Western world? and that is the ?wound to the masculine psyche,? which is a debilitating wound to the ?feeling function? (more often associated with men) that co-exists with a parallel ?wound to the feminine psyche,? an impairment of the ?doing function? (more often associated with women). Healthy anger is a motivating factor.

According to Dr. Johnson:

?Romantic love not just a form of ?love,? it is a whole psychological package ? a combination of beliefs, ideals, attitudes, and expectations. These often contradictory ideas coexist in our unconscious minds and dominate our reactions and behavior, without our being aware of them. We have automatic assumptions about what a relationship with another person is, what we should feel, and what we should ?get out of it.??

The origin of ?romantic love? in three Medieval tales.

Best known and loved for the insights and wisdom he contributes in the retelling of timeless folktales, Dr. Johnson?s work reveals the meanings and origin of the concept of romanticized ideals in Western societies, and how these both impaired intimate relationships between men and women today, and produced an overall ?impoverished sense of social consciousness in Western culture.?

Perhaps even more importantly, he provides insights into how understanding the psychological dynamics of these ideals can provide us with a new vision today for how to revitalize what is arguably the most critical (and wounded) of all relationships in our personal journey of transformation and healing as individuals in relation to self and life.

Birthed in the Middle Ages, Dr. Johnson maintains that three Medieval tales in particular have formed the basis of ?romantic love?:

• Tristan and Queen Iseult
• The Fisher King
• The Handless Maiden

The Tale of Tristan and Queen Iseult.

In a book titled, We: Understanding the Psychology of Romantic Love, Dr. Johnson presents a remarkable analysis of the tragic tale of the love between?Tristan and Queen Iseult.

He describes this as not only one of the most moving and tragic of all epic tales, but also the one that most accurately encapsulates the ideas of ?romantic love.? Being the first of its kind, for example, most all romantic literature stems from it, to include Romeo and Juliet and movie productions in current times.

This is a tale is of a young noble hero, Tristan, who is overwhelmed by his passion for Queen Iseult. Torn between the conflicting forces that rage within the male psyche when a man falls prey to these ideals, he is forced to make a choice between the struggle to win the coveted prize of heroic masculinity on the one hand, and the journey to become conscious of his feelings, love and relatedness on the other.

Iseult faces a similar yet different inner battle within the female psyche. On the one hand, she sees the necessity to protect herself from what Tristan represents, yet she finds herself helplessly captive against her will to a man who murders her uncle and in other ways betrays, and misuses her.

Is it love or an obsession to possess or be possessed?

What rendered the ability of Tristan and Iseult to make wise, clear choices? According to the tale, they drank a special wine ??a love potion of sorts.

Each became obsessed by their ?love.? In response to voices of reason that warned Tristan, ?this way leads to death,? for example, he recklessly replied, ?Well, then come Death.? Similarly, the wine melted away Iseult?s hatred for Tristan and she surrendered her soul, saying, ?you know that you are my lord and my master, and I your slave.?

Under the spell of ?romantic love?:

• Each was ?ready to trade everything, even life itself, for one night together.?
• Each became ?entranced, mesmerized, in love with a mystical vision? in which they saw each other mostly through the spell.
• Each viewed their love, not as ?not ordinary human love that comes by knowing each other as individuals? but rather as ?supernatural and involuntary? ??an outside force that possessed them against their will.
• Each regarded the other as someone who, at last, would perfectly complete, free, save, heal them of all pain, or help them find meaning and wholeness in life.

Is it love or mostly illusion?

The tale of Tristan and Iseult symbolizes the powerful forces at work in the whole of our society that are most often expressed in the experiences of romanticized love, where certain outside forces (narcissism and codependency) possess them to say, feel, think, act in ways that are seemingly against their will.

In Medieval Times it was called ?courtly love? between a noble and courageous knight who worships a fair lady as his inspiration for battle and for noble acts of saving others. He symbolizes all that is strong, noble, potent, a hero who needs his lady to inspire him to conquer. In contrast, she symbolizes all that is refined, soft, spiritual, high-minded, pure, and good, a lady who needs him to protect her and tell her what to do. It can sound wonderful, and that is its deadly allure.

This love is less about loving someone; and more about being ?in love? with:

• The idea of love itself.
• What the other is supposed to do for them.
• What each is supposed to do for the other that the other (due their wound) cannot do for themselves.

And thus, whether openly or secretly in their heart, or both, each regards the other as defective in some way that helps them feel ?valued? and needed. Is this love, or mostly illusion?

An awakening of consciousness and conscious love?

To understand the love relationship between a man and a woman is to see it as an unfolding mystery, a path to consciousness, perhaps like no other, that leads lovers to see their own wounding in the willing eyes and heart of the other to be a holding place of compassion and understanding, hope and belief.

These misleading cultural notions of romanticized love, however, and their prevalence, block men and women from forming the emotionally fulfilling couple relationships they deserve. ?The prevalence of addictive relating, narcissism and codependency patterns between men and women are reflective of these norms.

Addictive behaviors are misguided attempts to meet core emotional needs for love and recognition, contribution and life purpose. Genuine intimacy is mutually fulfilling, reciprocal and consciously engaging. It does not shrink from the pain inherent in connecting intimately. It faces core fears as assets, and great teachers. Authentic intimacy and healthy relationships invite us to stretch out of our old comfort zones into consciousness and healing.It is by facing our fears and old wounds that we awaken the qualities essential to living healthy and happy lives: integrity, balance and unconditional acceptance of self and other.

Romanticized love has less to do with love and compassion and more to do with being ?in love? with love, a desperate seeking of wholeness, completeness in the other. Therefore examining these assumptions, about what a relationship between a man and a woman should be, what men and women ?should? feel, what each should ?get out it? is a necessary undertaking.

For men and women to closely look at these romanticized ideals, however, will require heroic efforts. It?s not easy to see the arbitrariness of these norms that we?ve been swimming in for centuries, and equally challenging, our brains are designed to resist straying from with the familiar. More often than not, we exhibit a strong tendency to not change until the pain of not changing becomes greater than changing.

Nevertheless, it is an opportunity to explore both the transcendent beauty and potential of love relationships, as top notch schools for personal transformation, yet also examine the underlying belief system of romanticized love, as a set of contradictions, falsehoods and illusions that operate subconsciously to shape their behaviors and relationships, and the direction of their lives.

Floods, lightning kill 8 as heavy rains hit China

BEIJING (AP) - Floods and lightning killed at least eight people as heavy rains pounded southern China, destroying homes and blocking roads, official media said Saturday.

Flooding from this month's seasonal rains has already forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes and left more than 170 dead or missing.

Two people died in the southern province of Guizhou after being struck by lightning, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Two others died after being washed away by floods Friday evening. Xinhua said four other people died but did not provide details.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs said Friday that flooding and rains have killed 25 people, left 25 missing and forced about 671,200 from their homes since Monday.

Xinhua did not say whether the most recent fatalities were included in the 25.

The torrential rains are forecast to continue through the weekend.

Landslides crushed parts of a railway line in southwestern China on Thursday evening, stranding 5,000 passengers on four trains, railway officials said.

About 1,200 workers are continuing to clear tracks and make repairs along the Chengdu-Kunming railway line, which links the capitals of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, Xinhua said.

Canada: New Chaldean eparchy created for Iraqi refugees

Pope Benedict XVI has established a Chaldean Catholic eparchy in Canada, and appointed Archbishop Hanna Zora as its first bishop.

The establishment of a new ecclesiastical jurisdiction reflects the continued emigration of Chaldean Catholics from Iraq and Iran. There are now nearly 40,000 Chaldeans living in Canada, many of them having fled Iraq in the past decade. Archbishop Louis Sako of Kirkuk, Iraq, told Vatican Radio that while Chaldeans there welcomed the news of the new eparchy, ?we are a little saddened by the continuing exodus from our land, where the Church has been present since the 5th century.?

Class Action Lawsuit Filed Over Erwin Nuclear Plant and Cancer Rates

"Attorneys from three states filed a class action lawsuit today against Erwin's Nuclear Fuel Services.

Law firms from Greeneville, New York and Rhode Island claim emissions from NFS are to blame for high rates of cancer.

Attorneys are fighting for their clients to get compensation for personal injury and property damage.

?No one wants to face the truth here and the truth is, I have highly enriched uranium on my property and I am 21 river miles downstream,? says Park Overall who?s one of the main advocates of the lawsuit against Nuclear Fuel Services. ?I began to hear about all this cancer here, and we started to look into it. These chemicals and radioactive isotopes are related to particular cancers that we have too much of in the area.?

Overall says Monday's filing of the class action lawsuit is the biggest step so far for the Erwin Citizens Awareness Network (ECAN). ECAN is a group that?s researched NFS?s emissions dating back to 1954.

?The paperwork tells the true story, the lack of public regard for health and safety,? explains Overall. ?How much was spilled. how much went in the air.?

Attorney John Rogers is with the Greeneville firm who agreed to take on this case, and Monday he filed the 40 page suit with the Federal Courthouse in Greeneville.

?[We} filed in United States District Court seeking compensatory and punitive damages for those personal injuries and also property damages.?

He says there's proof that NFS's chemicals have caused harm to it's neighbors.

?You don't have to go very far away from the nuclear facility itself to run smack dab into the pattern of significant cancers that greatly exceed the national average,? says Rogers. ?There are about 20 cancers that science can trace to exposure to materials such as those being emitted into the environment.? Those radioactive materials linked to cancer he says are like those manufactured at companies like NFS.

Right now, there are about 20 names on this class action law suit.

Once attorneys review more medical records and backgrounds, the number of people suing NFS has the potential to reach the hundreds.

NFS issued this statement on the lawsuit.

"Although the company can not respond to the specific allegations. We take our environmental health and safety obligations seriously and we routinely monitor the work place and our employees to ensure we maintain a safe work place. We also monitor our emissions and the surrounding environment to ensure our operations are not adversely impacting the environment. NFS firmly believes that it's operations have not harmed anyone in the community and the company will vigorously defend itself against any lawsuit alleging otherwise."
