Associate Vice President, Financial Aid & Service - Educational ...

Position Summary:

The Associate Vice President, Financial Aid & Service - Educational Loan Services position is a full-time employment opportunity. The Associate Vice President, Financial Aid & Service - Default Aversion holds responsibility over the Director(s) and Associate Directors of Student Finance / Educational Loan Manager positions as well as their respective staffs.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Understand, pursue, and strive to fulfill the university's mission and core values.
  • Support the VP of Financial Aid & Services with the development, monitoring, and completion of short and long-term goals in alignment with organizational strategies and vision.
  • Under the supervision of the VP of Financial Aid & Services, provide support and guidance as well as day-to-day direction both within the Default Aversion division of Financial Aid & Services.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities including: interviewing, hiring, orienting and training and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Foster personal and professional growth of staff through regular interaction and support.
  • Analyze data, monitor performance and trends of our vendors.
  • Ensure integrity of data and resolution of any discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to develop and support Student Financial Literacy initiative for University.
  • Lead any data challenges, appeal processes or audits that impact the Default Aversion Division.
  • Review and update the University's Default Management Plan, as necessary due to changing technologies, practices and conditions.
  • Monitor campus compliance with the plan to ensure lowest possible default rate
  • Assist in the development and implementation of student financial literacy initiatives and training of staff
  • Assist students with the resolution of fractured loans issues and delinquencies to prevent loan defaults
  • Verify the accuracy of student loan and enrollment status data in federal systems and make corrections as necessary
  • Assist university associates with the implementation of enhanced entrance and exit counseling initiatives for all student borrowers
  • Act as point of contact our vendors to ensure that compliance and optimization of established procedures.
Additional Job Duties (include but are not limited to):

The Associate Vice President, Financial Aid & Service - Default Aversion (AVP) will:

  • ensure proper administration and oversight of our default aversion and financial literacy programs
  • develop and implement strategies that will support the institutions activities in Default Prevention and our Management Plan that promotes student and school success by increasing retention and reducing delinquency and default
  • implement strategies that identify students at risk and provide counseling frequently and at earliest possible stages
  • be responsible for the management of a Default Aversion and Financial Literacy team at remote locations and initiated through supporting vendors
  • ensure proper oversight is maintained with our vendors, accurate billing and adherence to established policies and procedures
  • implement proper check points to ensure there is transparency in our processes and objectives are met
  • build and retain a strong performing team that is able to adapt to the various needs of the university, provide exceptional service to our students, complies with program and institutional requirements and continually look for improvement opportunities
  • coordinate with the New Student, Continuing & Re-Entry and Program Administration and Support Teams to ensure program integrity is maintained
  • support the VP of Financial Aid & Services and leadership for the Financial Aid & Services with the development, monitoring, and completion of short and long-term goals in alignment with organizational strategies and vision
  • represent the University in public forums, as agreed with the Vice President of Financial Aid & Services and will at all times present the institution and its stakeholders in a positive and professional manner
  • work collaboratively with all staff to ensure the mission of the University is actively pursued

Minimum Requirements:
  • Seven (7) + years of experience at a Director level.
  • Five (5) + years of experience at a student loan servicer, guarantor or lender.
  • Five (5) + years leveraging university student information systems and applications
  • Direct P&L responsibility.
  • Excellent management, communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Experience with call centers technologies, including the Work Force Management, CRM, Dialer, Chat and call center phone systems.
  • Experience in training and motivating staff in a decentralized environment.
  • Able to travel 30% of the time.
  • Experience with CampusVue or similar student information system, NSLDS, National Student Clearinghouse, CPS, COD.
  • Knowledge of Federal Student Loan and Gainful Employment regulations and Default Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to plan, work effectively and meet established deadlines.
  • Strong organization, prioritization and self-motivation skills.
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Education:
  • Bachelor degree from a regionally accredited or approved nationally accredited institution required, Master Degree preferred.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms and talk or hear. Communication Skills: While performing Duties of the job, the employee is required to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos. The employee requires the ability to write effective and detailed correspondence and to effectively present information both in one-on-one and small group situations.

Mental Demands: While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to deal with stress associated with a fast-paced work environment and multiple priorities/tasks. The employee will be required to make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations, grasp and apply new ideas, communicate with various personalities at all levels and have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.

Work Environment: While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to work in an office environment, and the noise level is usually moderate to loud.
