Information and Education Services Manager, Icahn School of ...

Reporting to the Library Director, the Information and Education Services Manager ensures that the Gustave L. and Janet W. Levy Library actively and creatively serves as a partner in the educational, research and clinical missions of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai by providing responsive and innovative information services. This role oversees and evaluates existing programs and develops new services focusing on the effective use of information resources by students, faculty, and staff. The role is also responsible for engaging and providing leadership to the entire library staff in the delivery of reference and instructional services. The Levy Library is part of Academic Informatics and Technology, which also includes Archives & Records Management, Instructional Technology and the IT Academic Support Center. The Information and Education Services Manager supervises one FTE.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, vision, and planning for all reference and instructional services, including library course content integrated into the Medical and Graduate School curricula; virtual and in-person reference assistance, instruction sessions and one-on-one consultations
  • Delivers classroom, online and point of care educational sessions to faculty, students and staff on identifying, evaluating and using evidence-based resources for decision support in patient care
  • Creates and maintains content on the library website, including tutorials and resource user guides
  • Evaluates biomedical resources and tools for potential library acquisition
  • Leads staff development and training initiatives in the effective use of the biomedical literature
  • Consults with faculty on search strategies for bibliographic databases; managing information retrieval; and preparing manuscripts and presentations
  • Monitors and stays abreast of reference trends and practices in academic health sciences libraries
  • Develops, presents and evaluates in-person and web-based instruction in database searching and information management to support evidence-based practice, life-long learning and scholarly research
  • Collaborates with staff on developing reference policies and procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency in workflow and a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Compiles and evaluates usage statistics for reference and instruction services

Required Experience:

  • Master's degree earned from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program
  • Extensive experience searching the biomedical literature, including PubMed and Web of Science
  • Minimum of five years working with students and faculty in an academic health sciences library
  • Strong background in evidence based medicine concepts and approaches to effectively using clinical resources
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor staff and work collegially across departments
