Allen Set For A Return To Acting - And To New York?

Woody Allen is set to make his return as an actor in his next film, which will be shot in Rome, Italy.

The moviemaking legend will begin production on his untitled new movie in Italy this summer with Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg and Penelope Cruz.

And he tells WENN he'll be starring in the project too after stepping out of the spotlight to concentrate on directing his most recent films, which were all shot on location in Europe.

He explains, "I'm one of the tales in the film. All the parts are quite significant and there just happened to be a part that I could play. You know I can't play the love interest anymore and of course this is tremendously frustrating because that's really what I want to play.

"I wanted to play all the parts that I've always played but they're not as believable anymore, so I have to play Pops, the backstage doorman at the theatre! There is a part for me in this where my wife and myself (in the film) go to Rome because our daughter is going to marry an Italian boy that she met there, and we're going over to meet him and his family."

But Allen admits he's beginning to tire of filming abroad - because he can't find a decent shower in a European hotel.

The auteur, who is famous for making films based in and about his beloved New York, has made a string of films in European capitals - but now he's ready to head home.

He tells WENN, "I'm not going to be able to see any baseball in Rome and that's a big loss for me. I will have three months of a hotel shower. I've got a great shower at home; it comes down hard and you get into a hotel, especially in a foreign country... It's nice to work at home. I like that, my own bed and my own house. I love my surrounding pharmaceuticals!

"There are a lot of advantages of working abroad as well but New York is a fabulous place to work in because there's a million stories to tell and great locations. I've made many movies in New York and I don't even think I've scratched the surface of New York City."
