Mrs in Training: Outdoor Movie Birthday Party

In my family, I have a godbrother and a godsister. ?My godparents, the couple that sponsored me when I was baptized, had two children. ?They lived across the street, and they've always been better than most family, so as kids we had to give each other titles also.

Robbie is my godbrother, and he turns 30 this week. ?His wife, Rose, planned the neatest outdoor movie party. ?Her parents have a gorgeous house on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and they had a large screen and projector, lawn chairs set up, and the best buffet of movie-worthy snacks.?

I had the pleasure of making the cake! ?I modeled it almost identically on inspiration that Rose sent me.

This was actually my second round of attempts at the cake, since my first cakes fell, and I ended up being an hour late at the party, oops. ?We did carrot cake at birthday boy's request, but I left out the nuts. ?Unfortunately, the powdered sugar star didn't hold up well with the moist icing, and those were the fourth attempts Tyler and I made at sugar cookie hand prints, but it turned out pretty well!

And some other shots from the set up that Rose put together:

Guinevere had a fantastic time running around outside in the dark, stealing glow light necklaces from everyone and making new friends. ?She eventually passed out WAY past her bedtime, and around midnight mom and I hit the road as well. ?It was a super fun night though, and I loved getting to see our family.

On a side note, I definitely do NOT recommend the drive home from there at night. ?We had to cross the Bay Bridge, and it was absolutely terrifying, the most white knuckle experience I have ever had. ?I'm grilling mom "If someone hit us, would we go through those side rails?" and "Exactly how high up are we?" ?I was frantically trying to remember every action movie I had ever seen, and mapping out a plan for getting Guinevere out of her carseat and up to safety, down to remembering I should blow on her face before opening the window so she held her breath.

Needless to say...we survived.
