Saturday Morning Wisconsin Sports Report

Posted Saturday, September 22, 2012 --- 5:30 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin sports news from The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Milwaukee Brewers are surging at the right time in their effort to capture the second National League wild card spot. They beat the Washington Nationals, a team almost certain to be in the postseason, 4-2 last night. Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez had consecutive RBI hits in the ninth. The Brewers are 1 1-2 game behind the Cardinals.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) ? The Milwaukee Brewers have added a new catcher to their roster. They acquired Yorvit Torrealba yesterday from the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later. Torrealba has played just 10 games for the Blue Jays this year, hitting .214 with one home run and two RBIs.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) ? So far the Seattle Seahawks haven't shown much indication that their passing attack can keep up with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Russell Wilson was dynamic during the preseason for Seattle, but through two weeks it is last in the NFL in passing yards. The teams face off Monday night in Seattle.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) ? Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is under no illusions that the Irish are going to shut down Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson. Containing him, however, will be essential in the battle of two of college football's most storied programs. The Irish are ranked 11th and haven't cracked the top 10 since 2006. Michigan is 18th.
